Magnum Armories XMP50 is a semi-automatic pistol that utilizes a closed-bolt recoil-operated rotating lock mechanism with a recessed, spurless hammer on a double-action-only (DAO) trigger assembly. Trigger pull is consistent at 3.3 kgf (kilogram forces). In theory and in practice, the weapon can be carried unsafed with the hammer down on a loaded chamber. Magazine capacity is 18 (+1) rounds. All operating surfaces are ambidextrous.

The XMP50 is entirely made of synthetic alloy with no metal parts, and features distinctively wide grooves on the slide, grip, and detachable trigger guard to enable easy weapon operation while wearing heavy gloves. The inside of the grooves on the grip are shallower, with the insides checkered. The front of the grip itself, on the other hand, has no checkering. The lack of texturing makes it easier for the user to correct a hasty (and insecure) finger placement if the weapon is drawn in an hurry - a feature designed with concealed carry / personal defense in mind.

The XMP50 features a Novak-style rear sight and dovetailed front sight by default. A special suppressor is also available, with a sound suppression ratio of 42 decibels. Another available attachment is a quick-attach shell catcher, which can be snapped on over the ejection port without modification.
